In the next few months, the PCOM Library will transition to a new and improved search experience. The updates are designed to enhance your research experience, but you may notice some changes to our library website.  If you have feedback or encounter any issues, please let us know via the chat interface or by email at library@pcom.edu. We value your input!

This page will provide information about the coming changes and regular updates about our progress. We hope to move to the new search experience in June 2025.

What are the changes?
We are replacing two systems: our backend catalog and the overall search frontend. The new systems are called FOLIO and VuFind, respectively.
Why is the library making these changes?
Our current catalog software, Voyager, is nearing the end of support. Voyager has been a standard in libraries for decades (first released in 1992!) but is showing its age and limitations. Notably, Voyager does not offer great support for the increasing number of electronic resources we offer.

By changing to FOLIO and VuFind, PCOM Library will be able to offer a simpler search experience. nstead of having to choose among several search options, the new search engine will be similar to a Google search: one search box for all your searches.

When will the change happen?
We aim to go live with the new search experience in early June 2025. We hope to show a preview of the new search in the spring.
Will I have to change anything such as links to library materials?
Our goal is to minimize the impact for our patrons. Please know that links to online articles or e-books should remain unaffected. The library will assist in finding and fixing any links that may need to change.
