SUMMARY:Understanding the Publishing Ecosystem
DESCRIPTION:As a faculty or student researcher\, publishing your work is always on your mind.\nTo learn more about the process\, join the library for an informative panel discussion chaired by George Woodward\, Senior Publisher for the Health and Medical Sciences\, at Elsevier.\nMr. Woodward works on a portfolio of journals\, and before joining Elsevier\, he worked as a managing editor for two immunology journals. Currently he presents to faculty and student researchers around the United States\, providing an insider’s perspective on the publishing process and how to get the most out of it.  Joining Mr. Woodward on the panel are three PCOM faculty researchers and authors: \n\nKerin Claeson\, PhD – Her research combines the disciplines of paleontology\, comparative anatomy\, and development to formulate and test phylogenetic hypotheses of vertebrate interrelationships.\nKatherine E. Galluzzi\, DO\, CMD\, FACOFP dist.\, – Dr. Galluzzi specializes in geriatrics and hospice and palliative care.  Her publication focus includes opioid-induced constipation\, sexuality in aging\, care at the end of life and various aspects of pain.\nBrent Rollins\, RPh\, PhD –  He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and given presentations on health care consumer behavior\, particularly focusing on direct-to-consumer prescription advertising\, and the scholarship of teaching.  He is the primary co-author of the textbook titled Pharmaceutical Marketing and co-author of another textbook\, Financial Analysis in Pharmacy Practice.\n\nThe discussion will center around the path an author pursues for publication: \n\nPreparing the manuscript\nStructuring an article\nUsing proper scientific or medical language\nGetting the paper noticed\n\nImportantly\, there will also be discussion about author rights.\nLunch will be provided.\nPlease RSVP by November 27th\nGA: ericaro@pcom.edu\nPA: kathleenfu@pcom.edu
